I have always been a fan of Benazir Bhutto, a secular woman in power in an Islamic country. She seemed a very strong person viewed from the middle of the North American continent. When she was first deposed and exiled I painted a small portrait of her. 12"x8"
On this series I started using some of the techniques for ink application used by the Germen Expressionists such as applying the ink with a brushto flat areas to at texture as can be seen here in the face. Again my scanner would not pick up the light yellow in the shirt, gotta rescan. "John", 3.5"Tx2.5"W Linoleum block Print, Four Color print 2007 Edition of 15 by John Terwilliger
I took a powder for a couple months but managed to make some small art card prints for Christmas. Here is one. The scanner did not pick up the light yellow in the rectangle behind the head. The ink was very light with a lot of translucent medium in it.
"Lance", 3.5"Tx2.5"W Linoleum block Print, Five Color print 2007 Edition of 15
Just out of art school I did a number of drawings I like to call monumental drawings. I was drawing on roll paper either 42", 60", or 80" wide. I used a lot of charcoal pastels and sidewalk chalk. I also used spray paint, water color and india ink. This image was called the creation of man and started as a study of my arm across the middle of the page.
"Creation of Man", Chalk, charcoal, pastel on Paper, 60"x50.25", 1988
This print was started about 10 years ago. The red background and purple shirt are applied differently in each print. The color parts were pinned to the wall for 9 out of the last ten years and I only finished this print last week adding the tan to the face and the black final pressing. As always hand printed without a press.
"Too Cool", 5.5"tx4"w, Wood cut print, Four color print, finished 2007, Edition of 9.
This is the next little print I have completed. I started flash drying the oil based ink with a heat gun between blocks, which allows me to pull colors the same day. Interesting to note how the ink changes color under 600 degree heat. I'll be using that in upcoming prints after I do some more experimenting.
"Charles", 3.5"x2.5", 5 color linoleum block print, 2007
I continue to work on trading card sized Linoleum and Wood cut prints. It is interesting to test the small size format rather than my favored large size work. Here are two recent prints to contemplate.

I paint, I stare into space, I blather about ART. Ranting and Raving is now a spectator sport. Aesthetics is the philosphy of beauty. Braindead is the lack of all higher brain functions. If I see it, and I write on it, did I exhibit higher brain function?
